Expressions of interest for the 2024 Research Trip in the Wilderness of Nature Conservation have now opened! Please read the registration instructions carefully. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n

On 22\u201327 July, we will gather in two different places in the country to carry out two wonderful trips: STF F\u00e5gelsj\u00f6 and Northern Sustainable Futures<\/em> in Moskosel. At each accommodation here, we have access to food, accommodation and meeting rooms. The number of places is limited to approx. 40\u201350 pcs\/trip. <\/p>\n\n

Instructions<\/strong>It is only today, Thursday 11 April, between 07.00-22.00, that it is possible to submit your expression of interest. After that, the places are raffled off. Notification of a place or not will be announced by e-mail during the following week. Places on the reserve list will also be drawn. You can only sign up for one of the trips. If a name is included on both trips, the person is automatically deleted. <\/p>\n\n

What is it about?<\/strong>\u202f The idea is that we as participants for a week take an inventory of interesting and threatened forest environments with high conservation values. The collected knowledge contributes to the protection of the visited forests and provides the participants with new knowledge about nature value assessment to protect forests at home. Everything takes place in a pleasant way where everyone learns from each other. The evenings are spent looking at all the species finds that have been made during the day, compiling collected data, reporting to Artportalen and a few lectures for in-depth study. Expect to make friends for life! <\/p>\n\n

Who can participate?<\/strong>\u202f Anyone who can get out into the woods. You don’t need to be a biologist or know a lot of species. However, it is good if you are passionate about curiosity and the desire to protect endangered forests. An adaptation is made to your experiences and ability to get around in the forest. Anyone who wants to take stock at a leisurely pace should be able to do so. Your eyes will detect things that perhaps no one else has seen before \u2013 you are important! The interest in participating is usually huge, therefore we see that you who sign up participate all week. <\/p>\n\n

Accommodation & food<\/strong> We live in multi-bed rooms. If you prefer to camp, you are welcome to do so in connection with the accommodation facility. The food is vegetarian and is arranged with a hearty breakfast in the morning and a packed lunch out in the field. In the evening we eat dinner together after returning. Each accommodation facility has different arrangements in terms of rooms and capacity. More information will be sent in an email to the participants of the Research Trip. <\/p>\n\n

Travel<\/strong>\u202fF\u00e5gelsj\u00f6<\/strong>The accommodation in F\u00e5gelsj\u00f6 can be reached by both car and public transport. F\u00e5gelsj\u00f6 crossroads is the nearest bus stop which is about 3 km from the accommodation STF G\u00e4stis. From there, we can try to arrange carpooling if you don’t want to walk the last stretch. <\/p>\n\n

L\u00e4nstrafiken J<\/a>\u00e4mtland<\/a> (bus 46) runs between Mora-\u00d6stersund and \u00d6stersund-Mora and stops at F\u00e5gelsj\u00f6 crossroads. Trains run from Stockholm to Mora as well as buses from Stockholm (including Flixbus<\/a> and MasExpressen<\/a>). H\u00e4rjedalingen<\/a> goes to Sveg from where bus 46 goes to F\u00e5gelsj\u00f6 crossroads. <\/p>\n\n

Inlandsbanan<\/a> runs between \u00d6stersund-Mora-\u00d6stersund once a day and has a stop in F\u00e5gelsj\u00f6.<\/p>\n\n

Travel<\/strong>\u202fMoskosel<\/strong>Northern Sustainable Futures (Skolgatan 24) in Moskosel can be reached by both car and public transport. Three bus stops<\/a> are within walking distance of the accommodation; Moskosel Village (about 200 m to the accommodation), Moskosel shop (about 400 m to the accommodation) and Moskosel Wilderness Hall (about 450 m to the accommodation).<\/p>\n\n

L\u00e4nstrafiken<\/a> Norrbotten<\/a> (bus 45) runs between G\u00e4llivare-\u00d6stersund and \u00d6stersund-G\u00e4llivare and stops in Moskosel. <\/p>\n\n

The Inlandsbanan<\/a> runs between \u00d6stersund-G\u00e4llivare-\u00d6stersund once a day with a stop in Moskosel. The train station is less than 2 km from the property. <\/p>\n\n

Rough schedule<\/strong> \u2022 22 July \u2013 arrival day. We start with dinner at 18.00, followed by an introduction and optional evening activities. Arrive well in advance for accommodation. \u2022 23 July \u2013 calibration in reference forest and forest inventory. Short training for those who have not inventoried forests before. \u2022 24\u201326 July \u2013 forest inventories, full day. \u2022 27 July \u2013 departure day with cleaning and joint breakfast in the morning. Possibility to pack a packed lunch for the journey home. <\/p>\n\n

Participation fees and payment<\/strong>\u202f Member of the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation OR Protect the Forest 1000 SEK Member of the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation AND Protect the Forest 800 SEK Non-member according to the above 1200 SEK Become a member of the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation here<\/a>, in Protect the Forest here<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n

You pay the participation fee via plusgiro at the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation in J\u00e4mtland-H\u00e4rjedalen (applies to both trips) when you receive a confirmation of your place after the draw. Mark the payment with your name and surname and “F\u00e5gelsj\u00f6” or “Moskosel”. <\/p>\n\n

Brief background information<\/strong>\u202f <\/p>\n\n

The research trip in the Wilderness of Nature Conservation is an annual inventory of Sweden’s last unprotected natural forests in northern Sweden. Sometimes the trip also goes to Dalarna and V\u00e4rmland. Around 50 people of different ages, skills and backgrounds usually participate. Species knowledge is not a requirement, but we learn from each other. The important thing is that the Research Trip is a gathering point for forest and nature enthusiasts who want to be involved in documenting endangered unprotected natural forests. <\/p>\n\n

With the Research Trip, we want to save endangered forests, enjoy nature, find species and influence and challenge forest companies, politicians and the general public about the prevailing view of forests and forestry. We want to increase knowledge about species and ecology. <\/p>\n\n

Conservationist, forest activist and enthusiast Anders Delin started the Research Trip in 1991 and with the exception of the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021, the trip has been arranged annually.
