Gamfeldt2013: More ecosystem services with mixed forests

Gamfeldt and co-workers studied 400,000 km2 forest and analysed the amount of ecosystem services these forests deliver. Forests with multiple species of trees produce more of almost all ecosystem services, including timber, carbon sequestration, game and berries. Biomass production was 50% higher when five tree species were present than with just one. Read the whole article in Nature Communications.
