Holm2009: Increased ecoefficiency and gross rebound effect

Holm and Englund have analyzed the impact of increased energy efficiency in the US and six European countries during 1960-2002. They find a large discrepancy between the efficiency gains and actual use of energy and natural resources. In order to reduce a high use of natural resources (which often has negative consequences on ecosystems), consumption has to be adapted to the level of resource usage.
