Conservation Mycologist

Helena Björnström

Helena Björnström is a conservation mycologist with a lifelong love for mushrooms and forests. She lives west of Kiruna with the mountains as a view and the Siberian jay around the corner, but works in many different places in the country.

Helena has for many years been involved in the country’s natural forests through inventory work, as an organizer of various networking activities and as an appreciated course leader and lecturer. Nowadays, she works part-time at Protect the Forest and is the project manager for Boreala Mushroom Forests, which is run together with Petra Wikström and Erik Persson. Helena and Petra published the field guide Sandtallskogen soil fungi a couple of years ago and soon a similar book will be published with a focus on the fantastic funga of the limestone coniferous forest.

Since 2018, Helena is the main coordinator for the “Research Trip in the Wilderness of Nature Conservation”.
