Forest Ecology and Inventory, Basic Course 8-10 May 2026 with Sebastian Kirppu, Uno skog, Bo Karlstens and others .
Lindsberg’s training centre and Protect the Forest offer a weekend course that includes a lot of practical training
and spending time in different forests. The course is a basic course and is primarily aimed at those who
do not have knowledge of forest ecology and/or do not know many species.
In this basic course, you will get an introduction to the current situation in the forest based on a
forest ecological perspective, a bit of forest history and an overview of what we can expect from
weekend. Saturday and Sunday will be characterized by species that are typical of older forests and
continuity forests. You will get examples of species in spruce and pine-dominated forests. Sebastian shares
also with tips on tools that can facilitate inventory and species knowledge.
You are welcome to Lindsberg between 4-5 pm, at 5 pm we have an introduction and at 6 pm we are served
dinner. At 19-21 we get an overview of the situation in the forest, when Sebastian Kirppu gives a lecture
which contains a little forest history, some about the current situation and what needs to be done in the future.
Saturday is devoted to the basics of inventory, by visiting two different forest environments, where we
meet several knowledgeable leaders/inventors. Sebastian and the other inventors will also
show how the findings after a day in the forest can be compiled into a simple report, which in turn can be
be used in communication with authorities and others.
On Sunday we will experience a really beautiful old-growth forest. We go away a good distance from
Falun, and spend the day in an inspiring environment. The weekend ends in the woods, in time to catch up
to the railway station in Falun no later than 3 p.m.
