This Saturday , the Brevens pine forests reserve of about 1600 hectares will be inaugurated. It was the association Protect the Forest that first drew the attention of affected stakeholders to the high nature values more than 10 years ago. Since then, the association has pushed for the area’s protection. Protect the Forest inventoried the area in 2009 with the help of some of the country’s leading field inventors and discovered one of the finest pine forests in this part of Sweden.

The general inventory that was made in 2009 resulted in many sites of species that indicate high conservation values. The list of red-listed species and valuable biotopes that the area houses has since increased sharply with supplementary and in-depth inventories made by both the County Administrative Board and non-profit nature conservationists.
Protect the Forest has on recent occasions inventoried and visited parts of the area in collaboration with the Swedish Society for Nature Conservation in the region. The journey to conservation victory has not been obvious. Among other things, the area was threatened by a large wind farm. Fortunately, Eon withdrew from the project after pressure from nature conservation.
A big big thank you to everyone who has been involved in taking stock and fighting for the area! A big thank you also to the County Administrative Boards who carried out the long process, which resulted in a significantly larger reserve than we thought possible!
